Your obligations as a landlord
The basics of what Ontario law requires of you.

Core duties
- Keep the unit in a good state of repair and fit for habitation, and comply with health, safety and maintenance standards.
- Use the Ontario Standard Lease for most tenancies.
- Give proper written notice (usually 24 hours) before entering, except in emergencies.
- Only raise rent within the rules (see Rent increases).
- Respect the tenant's right to reasonable enjoyment and privacy.
